Hi. I am new to this forum business but it looks like a great p[lace to exchange informtion. Having just bought a 73 coupe that has been sitting for years, I am tearing it apart. I have the calipers apart (bores and pistons look good, within clearance) and ordered rebuild kits. It has the lip seals. I saw on one article that it is suggested that the springs be left out on rebuild (reduces the potential for pumping). Any wisdom in this?
Thanks

If you're rebuilding the calipers and using lip seals, you need to install the springs. They keep the clearance between the pads and rotor to a minimum. Leaving the springs out will let the pads retract from the rotor and you might not get any pedal or {worse} lose it when you need it most. IF you're rebuilding with O ring pistons and your calipers are sleeved (they MUST be sleeved to use O rings) then the springs are optional.

Thanks! I will leave the springs in.
