That looks fun, are those events open to anyone? Would you need to have role bars? I noticed the one car had a role bar.

Thanks, it was one of the most fun events I ever raced in also! The guys that set up Vette dogs are out of the NY tri state area I believe. They sponsored my trip out to Vegas to run this event in exchange for footage etc. They are a serious bunch that take their racing pretty hard core, they are geared more towards cannanball style events and races like this one. I stuck to this race since it is legal.

The event is open to anyone, google Silver State Classic and you can get a list of rules etc.

For first timers you are supposed to stay under 110mph, but they tell you where the radar guns are so you can kind of get around that. It was my first time there, but fortunately they took my NHRA licence and advanced run group road racing resume' into account and waived that. I was limited to 165mph because above that they want a fire supression system which I didnt have in my drag car which I took there, but again, no one said anything about us going 180ish.

Over 110 they also wanted a roll bar, then I think 140 required the full cage. Fortunately i already had that in the car since it is certed to run 8.50's in the 1/4 mile.

Check out their web site, and if it's within reach for you I would highly recomend going. Have ever thought to yourself "man I wish I could just hammer down and not worry about cops..." well there you can!!

You can count on that, I agree something like this would be a blast with a group of friends, get some 2 way radio action going on! ha ha ha taunting the hell out of everyone!

Technically a two way radio wouldn't help much because you are let out staggard time wise. The goal is to run as close to your avarage MPH, meaning I was in the 140mph group, to go 90 miles at 140 mph constant takes 36.xx minutes. You have to come as close to that as possible to win so you have to speed up to make up time for starting and the tight turns of the "narrows", but still make it across the line in exactly that time.
There are guys that make it within a few hundreths of a second from exactly on. I ran a little too quick and averaged 141.x mph, which is Why I came in 11'th.
When we were really flying I was just able to see the C6 ZO6 in front of us, but then backed it down a bit to slow our average down a bit. I think they let us out one minute apart from each other.

110mph limit is kind've a turnoff. I set my cruise control not far from that.

The 110 MPH limit is for newbies, you cant blame them, if they let any yahoo go as fast as they wanted it would have been shut down years ago. As long as your car meets spec and you have other licenses/experience (SCCA-NHRA-etc) they wave it like they did for me.
After the first event at 110, you can go as fast as you want to.

Is it an average of 110mph? Like I can make a top fuel run for a few miles, stop to take a ****, then do it again?

That looks like a good time!I would like to try that after I finnish a few things.(Six speed, tune ect.)The old C-3 might look a little out of place there but should be a good time.

(Actually 110mph would be a good test of machine for 90mi,sure most of us can run faster but it would be a good first shakedown!)

Man that looks like FUN!!! Are you going to go into a higher speed class next year?

I came up with 38 minutes 34.286 seconds for 90 miles at 140 MPH average if my math holds out.

For 110 MPH Average it would be 49 minutes 5.455 seconds if my math holds out.

Your not supposed to.... but they told us where the radar guns were and no one was writing tickets....

One of the other cars that went out with us hit mid 180's, they were in the 110 class also. Although I do not condone that. on a public forum where I am supposed to be politically correct

Yup, that's about right. We are going in the 180 MPH class this year. Last year I could not have gone any faster with my combo that I brought (a nine sec drag car) I am going to bring my road race car that is much more suitable for these type of events so it is more stable at the upper speeds and the temps will stay better in check.
You guys are not too far, try and make it out this year if you can, it's a great event.

Hi Doug,

We're doing some work on a 98 Camaro for the Silver State. The owner will be driving it. Should be tons of fun with an NA 427. :D

I don't think it will compete with "Big Red" but the fun factor is what it's all about. I definitely want to be there for the next SS Classic!

Wonder if I could modify my early Bronco to run in the 110 class using an Escalade AWD setup.
I'm thinking low boost 6.2 TT setup with 6L80E for "high speed crusin' ".

But then that would defeat the original "Rock Crawlin' " build and suspension. 5.13 gears aren't too friendly at high speed either. Hmm now I'm in a quandry... :D

How close are you to running out of fuel at those speeds for that amount of time?

I thought I remembered reading about the trials that they put the C5 Z06's through from GM where they ran them on their track wide open for something like 32 minutes until the car ran out of gas, but then again I think that was like I mentioned wide open throttle the whole time on a closed track. Just wondering.

Looks like fun, I'd definetly like to try that out.

I had about an 1/8th of a tank left, it sucked it down pretty fast.
