I live in Mississippi and have traveled it quite a bit. I do not hesitate to take this section of interstate highway, but get ready for the truck traffic. Memphis is a big distribution center and you will find many trucks on this stretch. The only problem I have with them is when a truck is passing another truck and you get caught in the passing lane waiting for him to overtake the other truck. Highway surface is not that bad.....mostly concrete as I remember.
