I have all stock 1998 C5 with nearly 124,000 miles on it and I was thinking about rebuilding the LS1 possibly stroking it, or picking up a used low mileage LS2 motor from a junk yard.
How difficult would this be upgrade to LS2 motor?? What parts will need to be replaced to fit the LS2??
Am I trying to take on something that is more cost effective to just rebuild my LS1 motor rather than messing around with the LS2 motor swap? Thanks for your suggestions.

Unless you are planning on going forged and looking to make over 600 hp then I would just rebuild the LS1. You can easily go with a better cam, the LS6 intake and some Stage II heads. Assuming you had headers you'd be over 400 rwhp on a very reliable engine. Stoking will cost because you have to change the crank. You can just go forged pistons and keep the stock rods and crank.

Rebuild, less head ache and you don't have to worry about the computer BS in the LS2 motors!

to put a ls2 in your ls1 car pretty much all you need is make sure you have the ls2 front cover w/cam sensor, ls2 valley,ls2 timing set, knock sensor ext, cam sensor ext, swap over your ls1 sensors, heads, intake etc. check into the relutor wheel on the crank too.

Wouldn't most of this come with the LS2 motor to begine with?

Anyone know where I can find a good used LS2 motor? I have been looking for a good deal for almost 2 months!

Stick with rebuilding your LS1, less cost. But if you do choose to go with a LS2, it should'nt be hard to find one with low miles out there and they should be well priced now that the LS3 is out.

I would rebuild the LS1. It doesn't take much for the LS1 to put out the some numbers as the LS2.

Certainly it's your choice but if you have a modding bug right now I would go with an LS3 package set up for your car instead of LS2. You will get the benefit of the latest engine and the LS3 takes to mods just as well as the LS1 & LS2.

Check with Katech. They have the harness' & adapters you need to swap to a LS2 or 3.
