Hey everyone, I am thinking of trying some RR courses this summer and I was wondering what is the best tire for this? I know there are a whole lot of brands and all, so I was wondering if there was a brand that stood out from the rest and also what treadwear would be the best? Thanks,

Paul

Hoosiers A6 have been very fast for RR, but they will not last a long time. These seem to be the most popular.

If you want something that will last longer and only be a little slower than the A6s then look at the R6. They will last longer and for most people are more than good enough.

Another choice if you want to save a few bucks would be the kumhos. They are pretty good and they last.

I have run all 3 on my RR setup and have equal success with all 3. The A6 are fastest, but many times you do not need that kind of handling unless you are in competition and can afford to get burn through the tires.

One question: How much RR experience do you have? First question is whether you should go to racing slicks or R compound. If you are new to the track I would suggest Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. Those are good entry level R compound tires that hold up well and give you a good amount of warning before they break loose.

There are a lot of sticker tires and you might love full on slicks, but those are generally for more experienced RRs

Good luck.

All good points.

BTW - if he is new I would recommend no changes if he is driving a vette. I ran a stock vette for 6 months (8 track days) before changing to more aggressive tires and brake pads. I learned alot about the handling of the car before I moved up the ranks. I now have coilovers, Wilwood BBK, 427, Hoosiers, Kirkey seats, etc etc etc.

It is way to addicting.....

I've seen alot about the Nitto 555R's in the magazines.
