How do you pick the CAM specs for a car? I have a 1985 C4 that I would like to have some lobe to its idle? I don't want to go crazy and have the car shake apart. How can I determine the CAM specs that these companies keep asking for?

You want to pick the duration and the lift. A cam that would get you a nice lobe would be around 234/236 with low to mid 500 in lift. And if you put a 113 lsa you should have a nice sounding motor and still have it streetable.

Just joined today, but I would like to inject my recommendation for camshaft. If you engine is a Cross fire, think twice of any camshaft over 210-215 at .050. If it is a TPI L98 I would think the GM Hot Cam or something with a 215-200 intake to 220-225 exhaust at .050. But there are many companies that have dealt with your engine, TPIS for example (customer service is allot to be desired, but knowledgeable), Exotic Muscle, Lingenfelter.
Just my 2 cents.
