My carb has a serious vacuum leak so instead of rebuilding it I would rather buy a new one for better performance. Which brand is good and how much CFM is ideal for my 1979 350 to gain power and run ok?I was looking at edelbrock to get a power package with an intake manifold as well

My 75 had a Holley 750 on it when I bought it. I left it on there for about 6 months and then replaced it with an Edelbrock 650.

quickfuel makes a 670 cfm just about right for your motor, stay away fron too big , and mechanical secondaries just too much for stock motor . Edelbrock has some good carb and manifold packages like air gap performer w/ 650cfm carb will make a big improvement

Anything between 600 cfm and 650 cfm will do. I have always preferred Holleys, as they're so doggone easy to tune.

TooBroke, Is there a quick link on the site or web for tuning the Holley? My car originally came from Denver, CO and I am in SE Michigan, about a mile difference in altitude. :) So, I know my carb is out of whack and want to adjust it properly. As it goes, I can't find any of my old Hot Rod or Chevy Hi Peformance mags with the articles in them. Thanks!

you may need jet change if the altitude is that different . you now have more air density w/ same amount of fuel

I'd start by going to Holley's website with the list number on the carb and find out what it came with new. Then open it up and see what's in there. (jets and power valve). And then get it back to the original configuration- Holley seems to jet pretty close for "normal" altitude.

Barry Grant has a pretty good section on tuning their carbs, but in reality, BG and Holley are close enough to get you started. there are several books out on how to tune both.

Thanks! I appreciate the info.

BTW - If I haven't said it before, love the color of your C3!

I would like to recommend a carb, and 3 years ago I would have. I have since switched everything I own to efi, and I will never go back. For simplicity, I would recommend a tbi unit with a matched kit. I personally like the megasquirt controllers as it opens the world for injection of any type.

pyro - Did your efi come with a controller? I have a newer Holley 502-6(?) TBI unit that I was going to install on a '92 Camaro, but have since sold the Camaro. Now I have the TBI unit but do not have anything else. It's a 670cfm unit so it should handle my mostly stock engine well, just was lost on what I would need to get ot make it all work. I know a controller of sorts and probably a few sensors and harness. Any suggestions on where to start and with what company?
