: Keeping the Vette COOLER?
VetteOnTheRun 03-08-2007, 06:37 AM Summer is around the corner and when I get into traffic I notice that the temp gets in the neighborhood of 220+.
Wanted to see what options are out there to keep it running cooler? Thanks!
tstar 03-08-2007, 07:26 AM Aside from fixing anything mechanically that could be wrong, the best option is a lower temp theromstat and then getting fan controllers or having someone put a tune in the PCM that will turn the fans on at lower tempurature...
You might want to check up under the front of your car, under the radiator shroud just to make sure something large didn't get sucked up in there and is blocking the air flow to the radiator. FWIW I installed a screen over mine as I had ALOT of crap up in there....

All that above like he said should fix and lower you issues, which actually 220 in these cars is not too hot. Although in all of my Vettes I changed the thermostat to a lower temp one, a tune for the reprogram of the cooling fans to engage sooner.
And always check up under in front for anything from leaves to trash bags that may be lodged in the cooling areas

Another option on top of the previously mentioned is www.dewitts.com (http://www.dewitts.com) whom offers a larger aluminum radiator that will keep the engine temps down, the units come with engine oil cooler as well. We have one thanks to Tom at Dewitts. (gets installed next week so I will post results) You can reach them at 810-220-0181 or tom@dewitts.com.
tstar 03-08-2007, 11:22 PM That's an interesting idea with the integrated engine oil cooler, I didn't notice any specs on what temp it keeps the motor oil at though. You want to be a tad careful there for street cars as the oil should reach an operating temp of over 200 degrees to burn off condensation and some contaminants.
tom snitzer 03-09-2007, 03:04 PM Good call on the Dewitts. I upgraded my radiator and have the intergrated oil cooler. For anyone thinking of eventually going SC, I highly recommend installing a meth inj kit for cooling when you install and tune the blower.

Who makes meth inj kit? Cost and where to buy? Thanks
tom snitzer 03-14-2007, 05:37 AM The two popular Meth kits are: Snow performance (50% meth/50%water) and ECS(100% meth). All the folks I know running serious hp are opting for 100% meth(aka ECS). The Snow performance kit is about $350, the ESC is about $550. PS. In addition to keeping my engine temps down, I was able to throw in more aggressive timing and turn an additional 40 rwhp with the kit. The power also comes on earlier.

I have spoken with both companies a while back, I liked what Snow Performance stated best. Pretty slick stuff if you ask me. Apparently with the H2O-Meth kit from snow you can hook this thing up to your resevior that your windshield washer uses. I'm still deciding on my end, will post results when I finally move on one of them!
tom snitzer 03-16-2007, 03:43 AM Suggest you take a second look at 100% meth kits (ESC or other). 100% meth apparently has superior cooling properties and performs better. It can also be hooked up to your windshield washer tank. Of the last 5-6 people I know who have installed kits, all running 600+ hp, all went with ECS over Snow Performance. The only advantage of Snow is that you can continue to spray windshield with 50% meth for cleaning.

Who makes the 100% meth kits?

Who can you recommend on the 100% meth applications, it has been a while since I have looked at this? thanks
tom snitzer 03-16-2007, 12:53 PM Not sure about who are the good tuners in your area. You might give ECS a call and ask them if they know anybody. A comp tuner should be able to handle the job. They will need to retune your SC however as the injection is programable to the level of boost. Ie. as the car generates more boost, the meth controler channels more alky into the manifold.
