I had put in a new motor over the last winter when I painted the car had noticed it was blowing blue smoke. I talked to the shop that did the internals and they seem to think i need valve guides now, any info on what I should use and what to look for from the machine shop ?

When you say the shop that did the internals, i take it that you had the engine rebuilt? If so, the valve guides should have been done when the heads were done.

yes the motor was rebuilt but the shop said they did not install new guides you would figure 4,000 to build the block would have gotten that, but they are telling me they are an additional 7-800.00 dollars
the motor only has 500 miles on it

$4K and they didn't rebuild the heads?
you could have bought a new crate engine from GM for that price
Did they do any work to heads? What do your receipts say?
How many miles on the original heads?
You might get away with just replacing the valve stem seals ; commonly go bad with age giving smoke you mention.

Wow...that's a new one on me. Every time an engine is rebuilt the heads should be removed and be machined with new valve seals, guides, and springs installed, especially for $4,000. If i were you i would demand this shop do the work free of charge. To spend that kind of money and have an engine that smokes afterward just isn't right. As stated you could have bought a crate engine for that kind of money. Good luck.

Yes if I were paying them to do that work I would expect them to replace everything with new stuff.

If the car only puffs when started and doesn't foul any plug , then look at the valve stem seals. You can do a leak down test for this. Also check your pcv valve. the engine has to breath. Valve stem seals can cost 200 upwards to replace. Look for an exp tech that would do it off his normal work from a dealer or a independent shop. A dealer would be out of sight. Be careful.
