I have a 79 vette that if I do not drive for a few days the battery is completely drained. alternator is new, lights appear to go off, tired pulling radio fuse etc. I have put a switch to turn the battery off but Iwould like to find the problem. any help would be appreciated

my 76 vette is doing the same
it takes like 5 days to drain it
it can be lots of things
but you said ''tired pulling radio fuse''
when you take it off does it solve the problem??
if yes there is something with your radio

I tried pulling the radio fuse and it did not work, I tried pulling the hood light and that did not work. It is not a big deal with the battery switch installed but I would like it fixed. Any suggestions since we have the same problem?

I had the same problem with an 84 Z28. After replacing two batteries in a week my daughter felt around for heat and it was a map light that i left on that ya cant see during the day. If that doesn't work find a shop that specialises in car electical. I have a moto, don't use a general garage. If the trans. is bad go to a trans specialist ect.

Disconnect the neg. cable. Put an amp meter between the cable and the battery post. Look to see how much current is flowing.
The clock will use a few mA's. If it more than that start pulling fuses until you find the curcuit that has the problem. Then trace that curcuit.

that is good advice, I have a 79 also that is having the same problem. I went out out and bought this thing called priority start that turn cuts the batter power when it senses drain and reconnects when you stick your key in the ignition. But I will start pulling fuses now.

Yeah David has the answer, use amp meter to isolate the curcuit and check what on that circuit is causing the drain. Process of elimination, tedius but it works.

I have the same issue with my '72. I bought a 'battery cable quick disconnect' from local parts store for 4 bucks. it takes less than 30 seconds to attach/remove battery cable now.
