I just bought an 84 vette and have a few questions. I am having problems with the brakes and wondering if anyone has some input on good pads.

Really depends on how much $$ you want to spend, a good pad is going to be AC Delco, if you looking to spend more there are many options out there?

What type of problems do you have exactly?

There are a lot of good after-market pads out there. I recommend AXXIS/PBR or Hawk. I even have a local pad company that makes their own stuff. Their stuff works great for daily driven street vehicles.

Thanks for the web site. I think the problem is my brake booster. Brakes don't want to stop the car until the car is warm

Car doesn't stop in the cold. mechanic said it was pads but I think my booster brake is dying. Pedal gets hard to push at times.

Your brake fluid could be old or there is some air in the lines?

Thats the problem when you buy a car that is 20+ years old. It usually is more then just one problem. If the brake system is still original I would consider just replacing everything & start fresh. That way you know the booster, brake cylinder, lines & calipers will last you 10+ years.

Hi Jacks 84, My 84 had the same problem until I repaced the "Brake Booster". (it is important you replace master cyl also) After I drove for less than a mile and had stopped 3 times the booster would build vac and kinda stop the car, it sure gave me reason to go home and change my shorts. I went the aftermarket rebuilt way w/autozone, and after the third booster the problem was solved, I would go to NAPA or OEM as the autozone units were extremely poor, after 3 rebuilt units from autozone I finally got one that worked. Let us know how this all works out.

Thanks for the web site. I think the problem is my brake booster. Brakes don't want to stop the car until the car is warm Try this there is a vacumm CHECK VALVE( its on the drivers side of the engine it sits atop of the valve cover....black little capsule with hoses on each end......make sure each hose isn't kinked up( that happened to me , it was a kink in the hose the brakes function off the vacumm from the Engine check to see that this hose leading away from the engine has vacumm when you start the engine( i had this same problem) the hose from the manifold leads to a small check valve to the brake booster that controls your brakes ( if there is no vacumm you wont have much braking power as a result........http://www.smokinvette.com/corvettephotos/data/502/F100_plate_002.jpg http://www.smokinvette.com/corvettephotos/data/502/C4_-_005_15_.JPG

I agree with "COOL-84" check out all areas for a vac leak B-4 the booster replacement, hey its always easy to spend someone elses loot, I think whats happening is your vac is leaking overnight and when you have driven enough to "warm" up the booster has had time to build vac. Next to the last booster I installed I started engine and put my head under dash near brake pedal and pushed down on brake w/hand and could hear the vac escaping. After checking for vac leaks without finding one I would look to the booster as you problem.
