Hey everyone....I am new to this site...obviously!!!! But hey I got a 73 corvette that I am currently working on...I have done a pretty good bit too it...now all I need to do is figure out why it wont start.....I have tried EVERYTHING to get it started...I have rebuilt the carb, flipped the distributor and all to see if the timing was backwards....I am getting spark on al plugs. oh one thing...how is the HEI distributor wires hooked up??? I got the one that goes closest to the cap but the tach and the power wire are teh ones I am confused about....I dont get i....It cranked once when I first got it but now since I have put in a new radiator and rebuilt the carb...it doesnt want to start now.I got pics of it butI cant figure out how to post them????

Just to clear things up a bit, does the engine turn/crank over?
Are the wires your talking about the ones that go for the power and tach? The 2 colored wires will only fit into the cap one direction. Its hard to flip them around and get them wrong. Under the coil, there is a hard steel ground that goes to the center of the cap plug in. There is also a ground wire that is bolted to the coil. That must be on!
On the power plug-in on the cap, the power is the one closest to the firewall and the tack is in front/next to it.
The firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2
Now, you should also find out if your getting a full 12 volts going to the coil. On some of the older vettes, i have found people trying to convert over to HEI using the old canister coil wires. If you take a reading, you may find that only 9 volts is going through that old coil wire. The HEI system needs 12 volts to run properly. If you run less voltage to the HEI system it can hurt the system and cause it to fail.Make sure your getting good fire to the plugs. Gap them at .040

Now, are you getting fuel to the carb? Is the carb squirting fuel? IF not, check your float level and make sure its right. If its not adjusted right, it will cause the needle and seat to stay open all the time or closed. IF the carb is good, then check your filter and fuel pump. Now there is a fuel sock in the tank. If a car has sat for a time or has a dirty or rusty tank, this sock can plug up and restrict the fuel from flowing.

I have given you a few ideas and hopefully some help. What all have you done to the car so far? What type of carb are you running? Engine mods? Tune-up? Intake?
