Can a stock C6 wheel be reworked to fit wider tires? I have a friend who just picked up wide body for his '06 C6 and doesn't have internet at his new house and asked for me to research this for him.

If this is possible what sort of cost would he be looking at for all 4 wheels? Who does this kind of work?

Thanks!

I'm sure a stock wheel can be widened. I have see it done on Mustangs. There are some guys that are better than others. I not sure on who he would want to use.

Why spend the money on a stock wheel? When most likely spending a little more can get you different wheels?

You can make a wheel wider.

I would suggest looking into some OEM/Replica Z06 wheels etc.

PM me if he has any questions.

I have seen many people ad an inch to the inside of the stock rear wheels to make them 11".
If you are looking for ultimate traction, I recommend getting a set of stock front 18" wheels and widening them to 11". Your tire options will be much larger if drag radials are what you are looking for.

yes stock C6 wheels can be widened i know quite a few guys who have done it with a set of fronts sending them to weldcraft in Michigan, but the thing is for a widbody aplication it wont work due to the fact thatthe widening is don on the inside portion of the wheel my good friend sam barros has a set on his car and has to run spacers to make them flush with the fenders if you have any more questions id recomend getting a hold of weldcraft

That would be me :)

I got 2 extra front wheels and shipped them out to Weldcraft Wheels in Michigan, to have them widened from the stock 8.5 to 11 inches. I then had all 4 powdercoated:

This allows me to run 305/35R18 Nitto 555R2s on the back:

They fit perfect. I put a 1/4" spacer to fill out the rear a little more, but here is what it looks like with no spacer:

The combo, including running 265/35R18s up front, is 26 pounds lighter than the stock wheels and tires!

And the traction is RIDICULOUS. I can put down 600 to the tire in 1st gear.

Yes they can be widened....

That being said, the previous post is one of the cleanest examples I have ever seen!!!

Very nice work, and that does look like some serious traction:burnout:
