Can anyone tell me why the steering would be very hard on my 1991? It is very hard to turn the wheel when you are driving slowly, but seems a little better at higher speeds, but not great. The reservoir is full and belts are adjusted correctly. I thought before I paid to have it checked I would see if there is someone out there that had had the same problem.

Thanks

Generally it is the power steering rack giving you the mornign sickness as the teflon is eating into the aluminum housing, I believe. First check your fluid, then, if you can get as much as you can out of it, put some fresh fluid into the power steering (some suggest Lucas), then try it again.
Otherwise I am pretty confident it is your steering rack.

could be your power steering pump also. You might want to check that as at slow speeds the pump will be turning slowly at low rpms and the fluid will just be slipping by and it can't build up enough pressure until you get to the higher rpms. Hope this helps a little!

Thank you ...I don't know how old the fluid is. I will try changing it.

Thanks for your suggestion...would you know how I would check on the pump to see if that would be the problem?
