: Accellerating quickly?
Muchacho 01-10-2008, 05:53 AM Here is the question, does it hurt your car to take off quickly all the time? Heading to lunch everyday a buddy of mine rides with me. My style of driving is that I accelerate quick, I'm not spinning the tires, just getting up to speed quickly. He tells me everyday that I'm going to mess up my motor that motors weren't built for that sort of abuse?
I have heard this so many times that I figured I would ask this hear for your response?

Your friend is most likely scared and wants you to slow down! These cars are made to go fast!
Icantakehim 01-10-2008, 04:55 PM tell your friend to get a ride with someone else! Since when is a Corvette not built to go fast? :smack:

You know what I joke with him all the time, and yet he b*tches all the time! Then a point was made about it in the office more as a joke that I drive a Vette, thats why I drive this way? :smack: I'm the same as you, any car I'm in (as long as its mine or a Rental) I accelerate quickly!
Sportivo 01-15-2008, 11:27 AM Obviously, any increased strain on an engine will cause it to wear a little more, and over time cause problems. While it is true that our C5s were built for speed, meaning the internals are beefier, it still doesn't hurt to limit the number of "launches" from dead stop. Your engine and drivetrain will thank you by giving service and performance over a longer period of time. That said, I do love to mat the loud pedal as often as possible!
david belding 01-15-2008, 02:08 PM getting on a car from a roll no matter how small the roll will not hurt your car. However jumping on the gas from a dead stop will cause problems down the road.

 My favorite answer here! Some of the other ones are true but this one I had to comment on.
But I think continuous "hammering" from complete stop will have its toll on the car later down the line.
adamwesten 01-17-2008, 06:10 AM Corvettes are ment to get up and go fast! Tell him to walk next time he bitches! :smack:
thechef 01-19-2008, 07:50 AM This car has so much power, I'll get on it everyone once awhile, not often because this is my only car and if it breaks down, I don't have alot of $$ to fix it! :(

:iagree: Well said - I'm right there with you!
Toms 2004 01-26-2008, 09:11 AM I'll get on it from time to time, but not all the time, can't imagine it is very good for the motor and life of the car.
