My 85 vette had 2.73 gears and they would spin a bit on take off but now they scream and go sideways and smoke comes off the tires. I love my new gears, it keeps the engine in its power band, no more hesitation.:burnout:

That is the truth! Now, take it to the track and see if you gained any improvement! :)

Wait; you never tracked it stock so how will you know??

Damn rights, I'm going to have to get some grippy tires to make this thing go instead of spinning in one spot. Any pictures of the weekend boat trip? My keys fell on the dock and popped of the floaty key chain and fell in the mud. I tried everything even a big magnet but no luck.

Are there any drag strips in Montana? Did you replace the whole diff or just the ring and pinion?

I replaced the whole diff, bought it on ebay:beerbang:

I'm not much for making a spectical out of myself, not much for drag strips. Its not modded enough to be welcome at a drag strip.

My '82 came with 2.87's and I hated them. Within 6 months from the day I bought it, I put a set of 3.54 gears in it and never looked back. It really woke the car up! One big improvement I immediately noticed was the amount of pulling power I had when I was running at freeway speeds in overdrive gear; it EASILY accellerated around slower cars. The 3.54's made the car so much more driveable..........

It IS the thing to do. For the later cars too, as everyone in the C5 and C6 forums are going to 3.90 gears. And some going as far as 4.11's. As our cars are geared to go over double the legal freeway speeds, it makes more sense to gear them so we can realize the full power of our cars at much lesser speeds.

You're right there bro, how often do you try for top end speed? Not often but how often are you tooling around in the lower speeds from the jump? Alot, so get the usage out of your Vette where you use it the most!:rockon6rk:

I agree, a gear change is the way to go. I put Yukon 3:73's in my '85 and also changed out the whole rear end. Got rid of the dana36 and put in a dana44. Now I can actually hook and use 6th gear. (have a 6 speed tranny)

When you switched out what all did you replace?
I have been thinking of doing a switch out to D44 but am on the fence about if i should change the center support or drill out new mounting holes. There have been a couple of claims that the D36 drive-shaft will still fit the D44 but am waiting to hear from some-one who has run one that way for a while and can give a good accounting of results.
One giant question is, Will the D44 center bolt to my D36 batwing? I have chromed the wings and done a lot to the suspension that i wouldn't want to have to change again.

If you don't mind me asking how much did that whole change cost?

If you don't do alot of highway driving, get the 3.73, but I live out in the country I have to drive atleast 1/2 hour to go anywhere. If you are just snorting around town get the 3.73:burnout:

My vette came with the performance rear end G92 which was the 3.07 gears and I can feel the differance over other vette's with the 2.57 gears.
What is the 0 - 60 time difference from the stock gears to the 3.07 gears I can't find this info anywhere on the web.I think the stock vette 1995 is 0-60 in 5.1 sec what gears is that with???
Doe's anyone have this info???

what is the differance between a dana36 and dana 44. if there is a 3.73 gear set for either on why bother swapping a 36 to 44?..

I have a bone stock auto 94 c4 that I'm going to change the ring and pinion on. I plan on rarely driving the car on the highway, so would ya'll reccomend 3.54's or 3.45's? Will I notice a big difference over stock?

I have a bone stock auto ........... Will I notice a big difference over stock?

You just asked the same question over in C4 Tech
Little point in running the same question in two different forums because it just confuses people as to what info you have been given
