I have a 74 that currently has non-working flip up lights. When I bought the car, the guy also gave me a set of recessed GT style lights with the car. Instead of repairing the complicated vacuum system for the flip ups, I was wondering if anyone could provide information on possibly installing the GT lights. They don't seem like they would fit, but if I've learned anything from working on cars, nothing is as it seems.

Thank you for any information,

the vac op h/l arent as complicated as they seem ,if you have all working parts. you have a vac supply line from manifolld and a switch line from dash ,an up and a down to each canister. if you want to change to fixed, 4 bolts on each h/l assbly tight space.

It doesn't look like it was too hard to do. The people I bought my car from got it done and it doesn't look like there was much to it.

Well, the problem is I don't have all the parts. There's most of the vacuum parts, but non of the electrical parts to activate switches and such.

And I understand how to install the GT lights, but they were made for a 77-82, which looks like they have a bigger hole where the headlight goes.

But thank you guys for the help. Maybe I'll be able to find the rest of the parts to get the flip ups working.

I have always prefered the flip up headlights as they're one of the things that make the C3 Corvettes so sleek looking. What happened to the missing parts? Who took them off/out? The previous owner? I'd vote for you finding or buying the missing parts and keeping your 'Vette original..........

Hi, I have a similar problem.. one of mine dont lift up... and the other one is slow.. so I've seen this options:

Electrical conversion:
LINK: (copy and paste into browser)
mcspeed.homestead.com/Our_Products.html

Or this one on ebay:
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270386507871&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

(or search ebay for Corvette Headlight Actuator) and you will find it. Sorry but I cant paste links as im new to the forum.

I can or redo the Vacuum for which I would have to buy a manual or search internet or I think Im going with the MCspeed, really helpfull guy and then the lights can be turned on and off with the car OFF...

Hope it helps a bit.. I prefer the flip up too...

The owner before us bought the car with the GT lights in it anto change them back. He went to a junk yard and got a set of headlights, and what he thought was all the parts to make them work. He didn't get all the parts, and I don't know what is there and what is missing, as I've never seen a diagram or a working system.

And I wanted to change them because I personally have never liked flip up lights on any car. Ya, they look cool in the day time when the lights are down, but it doesn't look good when they're up.

You're absolutely right. When the headlights are up, they look like a couple of frog's eyes. Not good looking at all...........

Ya, that's why I wanna change to the recessed style. Then it always has the slick, aerodynamic look.
