: High Compression Motor Detonation?

You all may know that I have been planning a big motor build. I was speaking to someone that seemed to know what he was talking about, but said a few things that didn't make sense. For example we where talking about my options for my monster build, and said if I go with a high compression motor and I run regular pump gas in it that I could fry the motor? Or there is a good chance of detonation? Is this correct or not correct?

With this sort of high risk, is it better just to go with forced induction of some sort?

 Detonation is a major concern for high compresion motors. It is one of the leading stumbling blocks in a motor build. You might have to used 100 octain fuel ot over come this. I use 100 oct. in Vages cause of the heat, car runs great.

Are you saying people stay clear because of the risk, or that these motors are easy to detonate? 100 octane is what you run all the time?
