Keith Loyd's cars -- Corvette's in disguise!
http://motionparts.com/files/news/62vette/570_1.jpg
Last year, Transformers turned out to be the movie blockbuster of the summer, featuring awesome machines courtesy of General Motors. Keith Loyd of Scottsdale Arizona has a few transforming Corvette blockbusters of his own, and they draw quite a crowd wherever they go too. What appears at first blush to be a 1962 Corvette turns out to be much more than meets the eye. Take a look at the windshield for your first clue that there is something different under the carbon fiber skin. Gaze at the interior with its power adjustable seats and heads-up-display. Looks pretty modern, doesn't it?
A peek under the hood reveals that, although still a small block Chevy, a '62 Vette this is not. Although titled as a 1962, the vehicle you see in the accompanying photographs started life as a 2004 Corvette. Hailing from Classic Reflection Coachworks in Lakewood Washington, these custom vehicles are the result of the union between a C5 and a '62 Corvette, which results in the beautiful lines of the older model along with the safety, comfort and performance of a new one.
Boeing Phantom Works software was utilized to be sure that every feature of the complex body shape was perfect, and the naked eye can verify that all of that effort was worth it. Keith wasn't happy with what's stock on a C5 Vette, though, so his cars are definitely a step-up. Take a look at the custom interior packages of each car. Notice too the wheels on the white car which are not GM pieces at all, but custom Mercedes wheels that Keith has modified with Corvette badging.
Under those wheels lurk brakes from Baer which appear capable of halting the Space Shuttle. So too are the tires massive, at 275/30 ZR19 in front and 325/25 ZR20 in the rear. Clever details abound, like the seven fin valve covers on the lump under the hood and the hidden hinges under the deck-lid.
Keith has been a car guy virtually since birth, and he first fell in love with these particular machines at the SEMA show in 2005. Want one? Sure you do. Call Keith at (480) 596-1984 for the latest pricing information. If you just can't wait for yours to be built, you can get in line at the Barret-Jackson auction, also in Scottsdale, for the chance to bid on the blue car you see in these very pictures. This car features the 1SB package which includes the heads-up-display, memory seats, and dual climate control. Also included are a B&B custom exhaust, 3.42 rear end gears, XM satellite radio and a 6-speed stick. Trust us... you are not likely to be disappointed. Good luck!
