This lens was taken with my Nikon D90 and 105mm f2.8 macro lens with 3 extension tubes.
What does it look like? What do you think it is?

I would guess a satellite image of something burnt, but reading over your hint of a description I'm going to say it something different.

Here is the image... This was taken with a point and shoot camera.
That satellite looking image was a close up of melting tar on a wood cross beam between the trail road tracks!

Great shot. I was in the ballpark with my guess. I work in the oilfield so have seen a few hydrocarbons before.
