I seem to have developed a rattle that sounds like it is coming from the rear area on the passenger side. It happens sometimes when I take off and at first I thought maybe it was an exhaust pipe hitting something. I got underneath and looked and felt around but everything seems fine. This is not a constant rattle it just happens right after I take off. It feels and sounds like a clank noise and then everything is fine. I have checked all my compartments to make sure I don't have anything loose banging.Any ideas? Thanks.

Try bouncing the car up and down as hard as you can. If you need more weight to bounce it, enlist the help of a friend. And try shoving the car from side to side as well. And if you can't find the rattle that way, jack the car up a little, lie under the car some, and kick the exhaust pipes sideways with your foot. As exhaust pipes get considerably torqued by the engine when you take off, just looking at them isn't enough. You have to get rough with them. From what you're describing, I would guess your rattle IS exhaust pipe related.

I just purchased a 2000 coupe and i believe i am having the the same problem you described. I thought it was the heat shield over the mufflers but now it almost sounds like something is loose inside the muffler
