Hello group,

I have a question about my new, or used, 1995 Corvette.

It's stated 17/24 mpg. city/highway.

But on the way home after I purchased it, the electronic reader said average 15mpg (and i drove it home primarily on the highway)?

I'm confused and kind of upset.
Who can help me with this?

Until you fill your tank and devide the miles driven by gallons pumped, you really don't know what your car is using for fuel. The display is not what I would call, accurate.

Were you looking at the 'instant MPG' or 'avg. MPG'? The instant changes as you accelerate and brake, whereas the average is overall. The only thing about that is you want to reset it every now and then to get a fairly recent avg. fuel usage. I reset mine every time I fill up. If you didn't reset it before you left, it may have been lower than 15 mpg and driving on the highway wasn't enough to bring it up much. Also mine was running bad at times last year which affected it. It was weird, I'd be driving and all of a sudden it'd just feel sluggish or bogged down and be getting about half the normal mpg., then after a couple minutes the check engine light would come on and it'd run perfect. I had it checked at a dealer and they figured out the oxygen sensor was bad. They replaced that and it was great. I run upper 20s on the highway doing close to 80, then lower to mid 20s near 70.
