I am putting alot of miles on my Vette and somewhere in the future I will look to freshening the motor up, and if the price is right, put a new one in. Now it is to my understanding that the LS series are easier to work on and are just a better engine than what came in the C4's originally. This is just what I have read/heard over the years and its why I am asking your thoughts on this to help in my future choice. Thanks.

When the stock LS1 broke a rod and blew a hole in the side of the engine in my 2001 SS Camaro, I bought a LS6 brand new (crate engine) from www.crateenginedepot and it was only $2999.00 at the time.

That was about 3 years ago, I know they've gone up a little since then, but that's STILL a great deal when you consider that you get a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty.

BTW yes it's the REAL LS6 that went into the C5 gen Vette complete with all the correct goddies.
Putting out a sound 405HP right out of the crate...of course I modded mine to around 500 before it ever saw the wheel wells.

That is a good price, now does the ls6 come forged pistons?

I don't believe so..but IF the LS6 that came in the Z06 had them, then the crate engine will.

I went to GREAT length to verify that it was a real LS6 with all the goodies that came in the Z06.

But that was a good number of years ago...and my old memory is fading on every detail.

Corvette magazine, I believe back in April, had an atricle about putting an LS6 in a 93 or 94 Vert. I think they hooked it up to the C4 tranny with some adapting. It ran them around $8,000.

What a jump in performance that would be!!!
