: Electric Supercharger??

A couple years ago when I had an S10 I was looking for cheap ways to make more power. Looking around eBay for ideas I came across an 'electric supercharger', which was just that. You wire it to a power source, install it as part of the air intake, and it was supposed to make something like 2 lbs. of boost or something like that, I'm not sure now. Also said it 'pumped (whatever #) CFMs'. I never bought it due to that fact that it just sounded fishy. Haven't given it any more that since until I saw one mentioned in another post and it got me thinking again. Do these exist as far as one that's reliable and really does produce a boost, however small it may be? How many CFMs do typical LT1s flow naturally aspirated? I have yet to do any searching or research, but just wondering if anyone else has ever tried one or seen them? I'd think if they worked they'd be much more common.

I posted the same thing in the general discussion section and they all said that they are crap. I will try and google it and find out if anyone has actually installed one and get a result in HP.

I Googled it and found a discussion in a Camaro blog. A kid was gonna try to make his own and most others didn't seem to think it was a real great idea or that it would work. The way some of them put it, it doesn't sound very promising, partly because of what I was wondering before I looked it up. If it's electric and runs under it's own power, the fan speed isn't gonna speed up with engine speed to produce more air.

I read that one guy in a maxima gained 2 hp, another guy said he lost power and another site praised it and were saying anywhere from 10 hp to 30 hp. Sounds like a bunch of crap. The one they showed in the picture looked like a tornado with a power put to it.

Yeah, others were trying to rig electric leaf blowers up somehow haha. I think I'll stick with belt driven SCs if I ever get that kind of money.
