Over on POTN, they do an annual photography coffee table book, where the thousands of members internationally submit photos each year, and finally, one of mine was just good enough to make one of the sections of the book for 2009!

Info for the Canon shutterbugs amongst us: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=568809

This shot was taken at the hospital back when we had our 3rd child, and she was in the NICU for a week. I walked around the hospital quite a bit, and took different shots just to keep my mind off the situation. It "paid" off! I had titled this one "Silence is Golden" and it will be on page 162...

No, sometimes I just get lucky! But thank you very much with the sentiment and compliments. Sometimes I stumble across good ideas in a large sea of bad ones, like a few good photos during my photography hobby, and the Invisicord design after I bought the Z06 back in 2003. About 100 more of these good ideas and maybe I could think about retiring! :)

Here were a couple of others I submitted, but they were not selected by the public. :(

That one with the bee is amazing, how big of lens are you using to get that close?

Actually, I used the 18-55 Canon kit lens reversed using a $14 reversing ring. That was one of my first forays into macro photog, now I have a dedicated Sigma 150mm macro lens.

I use this latest lens for shots like this.

WOW! Very cool, now how close are you to these bugs? Few feet, few yards?

Impressive photos, how did you pick up photography? My wife has been wanting to get into photography and has been looking at going to a community college night course.

For the bee-looking fly, I was probably about 4-5 inches, one of the downfalls of using a regular lens reversed. The 150mm allows for a better working distance of about 1 foot or so. Adding tubes and teleconverters will give me more working distance.

Photography started as a hobby a few years ago, and once you buy a DSLR, it is just as addictive and expensive as cars, trust me. It is a hobby that went bad, I just had to sell my Canon MK III and 85 1.2L lens to free up some funds, especially once I realized how much I had wrapped up in this "hobby". I am down to the 50D and 2 Ls and 3 Sigmas.

Tex, there are some very good books that probably do almost as much good as a community course. If you need some pointers and some help with starter equipment, let me know. There are a couple of online resources, a couple of Amazon books, and then the money you save, you could put into a nice Rebel kit.

Church, family, Invisicord, house, photography, cars & motorcycles, and work.... pretty much my day. I had other hobbies too, but something had to give! ;)

Nice capture! Btw, they have a piano in the hospital?

Anyways, congratulations on being a published photographer!

Yes, they had it corded off in the lobby, interesting to say the least, not sure if they ever have anybody that plays it.

Not good enough to be in a national magazine, but thank you!

This was selected by the largest Canon forum membership on the net right now (POTN) to be in this year's publication. The link to the info is in the first post. If you like art and photography, you might like to purchase this year's annual POTN coffee table photography book, I believe the price is just under $60 and is somewhere between 200 and 300 pages? That seems high, so it may be 200-300 photos total, not sure.
