As soon as I start my car the cooling fan kicks in and doesn't stop, this is even after the car has been parked all night. In fact the fan is so loud I can't hear the engine.
Is this normal?
I've got a the L98, 1990, auto and as stock as it can get I think.

That's not normal. Could be a stuck relay, shorted switch, etc. You'll need a FSM or at least a wiring diagram to track down the problem.

Did you have the AC turned on? If it is anything like mine, if the AC is on, the fan is on... It does seem off though that the fan would be that loud. I will let other people comment on that. I am not sure that mine works as it was designed, but I know it is how mine works....

No that's not normal, on a 90 theres two fans, The right one turns on with the A/C, look on the High Pressure A/C line between the condenser and the orifice tube there will be two pressure switchs side by side. The smaller one of the two turns on the fan and if it is unplugged for any reason or bad the fan will run all the time. Or the relays mite be jumped to run all the time. There is two relays on the drivers side of the radiator housing next to the headlight check them also.

Cut your mufflers off and you will be able to hear your engine over the fan, remove your cats also:beerbang:
