What should I use to remove the tree sap off my hood? It is a MAACO paint job so nothing to abrasive or strong chemicals.

Have you tried bug and tar remover? Not sure it would work but I'd try it.

I always had good luck with the Turtle Brand bug and tar remover, and it is safe for clear coat....but if it's got a Maaco paint job, the tree sap probably improves the looks....

I have used Vaseline before. And you might try using common hand cleaner. Because hand cleaner seems to loosen/cut most everything.

This will work fast and easy. Note than when you buy rubbing alcohol, it's already diluted.

For the best results, get the highest alcohol content and mix 50/50 with water.

Cheap and easy.

Most natural things like tree sap and bird poop come off much better with "Warm" soapy water.
Without the use of harsh chemicals. The cold water from the hose just hardens it up. if you haven't already give that a try before bug and tar products and avoid the rubbing alcohol, save it for last if all else fails.

It seems a bit crazy, but I learned it from a friend of mine and I use it on my cars now for little things like tree sap.... The Mr Clean Magic Eraser. Make sure the magic eraser is wet, scrub it with the white side of the magic eraser, then wash the whole car. It is also good for removing small scratches.....

Edit: I looked back and noticed it was a maaco paint job. I would definitely add that you should scrub lightly and I would be a bit nervous using it on a maaco paint job.....

Good news the Maaco paint job held up to the bug and tar remover:sm_party: .

What do you guys recommend for old hardened tree sap? The bug and tar remover doesn't work on it. It is on my chevy pickup the hardened sap.

"Goofoff" works the best with out hurting the paint, Most all Auto Part Stores and Dollar Stores sell it. It's for removing glue from pin strips and stickers but works great on pine sap to!!

Something I learned from my mom back many years ago...if you can catch it still fairly fresh and new, Skin So Soft from Avon works like a champ. It will remove tree sap and road tar like any brand of bug and tar remover and it's usually cheaper. A side benefit of Skin So Soft, it works really good as an insect repellant as well.

I don't know how she knew this but I was having a really "good" time trying to remove tar from my '69 Beetle when she told me to use it. All I can say is it works and I've been using it ever since.
