How are you guys applying polishes and such? By hand? Or are you using a buffer? The reason for this post is that I was watching speed channel over the weekend and a Mothers commercial came on and they were applying some polish with a cordless drill and what looked like a Mothers Powerball?
Are there any benefits to this sort of application?

1. An abrasive polish and a foam or wool pad are used to remove surface scratches. A machine polisher (Random orbital or Circular motion) is the best tool to carry out this type of process.
2. Waxes (organic or synthetic) are best hand applied with a foam applicator.
3. Polymer sealants require that you apply a very thin coating. Ease of product removal is inversely proportional to the amount used (0.5 – 1.0 oz should be sufficient for most vehicles) This is best accomplished with a soft foam pad and a random orbital polishes

I've seen that same commercial and have tried applying wax with power ball and didn't like how it went on the car. I just apply by hand or machine like buffer.

Depends on the mood and how much time I have. I like doing by hand, because I feel more involvement in the detailing, then when in rush I'll use the buffer.
