I'm looking for a little help with 2 things. One, does anybody know of a fix for a sloppy steering column short of relacing the entire column. It feels like the little plastic bushings down in the column are badly worn. The steering wheel/column has excessive play in all directions. Second, does anybody know of a quick change steering wheel adapter kit for a stock column? With the Kirkey race seat, door bars and roll cage, I need to be able to pop off the the steering wheel to easily get in and out of the car. If I build a new one piece column I can easily install a quick change adapter. That's more work than it sounds, and I really don't want to go to that much trouble. Thanks for your help.

There was a co that sold a quick release wheel or kit to remove the wheel quickly. Its inteded purpose was as a theft deterent.

Maybe check with aftermarket wheel co's like Grant.

GM used to sell a repair kit to fix the loose play in column. It had to do with wear with tilt mechanism. Had mine done MANY years ago. Sorry I and dont remember details other than the hamfisted Mr Goodwrench broke the horn contact tower I then had to fix and later replace.
Sorry cant be any more help than that.

I didn't know that Grant made steering wheels for the Vettes. That is good to know if they do I like their products!

The loose steering column can be several things but when it sloppy in all directions in a C4 it's the 4 bolts that holds the column support assembly to the lower collapsible mount (column body). It's a cast aluminum hub bolted to a steel tube and when it gets a little loose the steel cuts the aluminum hub like a hole saw from steering back an forth. if it's not to the point where the bolts have fallen out all you need to do is tighten the bolts, The bad thing is the steering column must be disassembled to get to the bolts. Takes 1 hour with the right tools.
