: body panel gap
SILVER 07-03-2009, 04:53 PM I have owned this 04 vert for over 3 years. It had 3k at that time. It has 21k miles now. The car fax was clean. I see no signs of it being wrecked, but the gap between the passenger door and the rear quarter is getting bigger and I have no clue as to why. Please help. thanks to all. http://i982.photobucket.com/albums/ae305/prostreet_67/gap004.jpg http://i982.photobucket.com/albums/ae305/prostreet_67/gap005.jpg http://i982.photobucket.com/albums/ae305/prostreet_67/gap006.jpg
Lethal Tendencies 07-03-2009, 07:02 PM The door hinge would cause a gap like that.
BLU COLLAR Z 07-04-2009, 04:58 AM Holy Smokes Thats Huge, Like lethal said take a look at your Door hinge, i hope you get that corrected
carrieflower 07-04-2009, 06:39 AM Is that gap the same width all the way down? Could the car be flexing somehow and creating the gaps. I have seen alot of Vettes with od gaps here and there and for the most part it is never anything serious that is up with them, hopefully yours fits into that category.
SILVER 07-04-2009, 10:08 AM The hinge seems to be tight top and bottom, the margin is not that bad around the rest of the door, its just at the top. To me it looks like a floor jack was put under the door seam and the frame buckled. that's not the case I have a four post lift.
The wife and I are the only ones to ever drive it. We want to trade for later model and this will be a deal killer.
Should I see a frame shop? I'm stumped
Lethal Tendencies 07-04-2009, 10:36 AM Whats the gap look like between the door and the front fender?
SILVER 07-04-2009, 11:26 AM a little tight at the top
BAD-C5 07-04-2009, 01:00 PM Wow... thats huge...:wtf: Good luck solving the problem.
02RonZ06 07-04-2009, 03:21 PM a little tight at the top
I'd suggest moving the whole door back and tilt the rear downwards a little causing the spaces to be the same all the way around,
top door/front fender,
bottom door/front fender,
top door/back quarter,
and bottom door/back quarter.
BLU COLLAR Z 07-04-2009, 03:52 PM I'd suggest moving the whole door back and tilt the rear downwards a little causing the spaces to be the same all the way around,
top door/front fender,
bottom door/front fender,
top door/back quarter,
and bottom door/back quarter.Moving the door to in that fashion will get you a gap up front ,there is more to this then repositioning the door im thinking
Dad's toy 07-04-2009, 04:24 PM It looks like you door is lower than the panel, I would try adjusting the door. It can be tough alone but with help you should be able to do it, just go easy, a little at a time. all you want to do is make it look good to trade it in
Blackhorse Zo6 07-04-2009, 04:49 PM I would take it to a body shop & ask them ...............:patriot:
SILVER 07-04-2009, 06:09 PM Thanks guys, I ask a pro to take a look at it and let you know the verdit. thanks again
Lethal Tendencies 07-04-2009, 08:31 PM a little tight at the top
Thats normal.
I would take it to a body shop. You won't beable to get that much adjustment from the hinges.
yourehooked 07-05-2009, 06:48 AM Yeah if these cars especially the Verts are parked on a non level ground they will flex pretty good giving the impression that panels are all outta whack.
eastcoaster 07-05-2009, 04:55 PM My buddies Vert was parked on an upslope in his driveway and it kinda looked the same.

I have seen this with the coupes too, when pulling into a slanted driveway at an angle and parked, the car flexes and the body panels look all combobulated!

Is that with targa top on or off?
Jan's toy 07-06-2009, 11:45 AM My husband's C5 had the pas. door down like your pic. He adjusted the door hinges, it is even now and to this date it hasn't moved (it's over 2 years)

canaleverpro 07-08-2009, 05:56 AM So does the gap change when you park the car in different positions?
SILVER 07-08-2009, 06:22 PM update: Went to the frame shop today. They checked the frame in 6 or 8 places with a eletronic device ane it's perfect. Next step is to loosen the rear fender and other panels to see what happens, hopefully they will move or can be moved back into place. The tech said he had never seen anything like this before but also said these cars can flex and do strange things. I will know tomorrow, keep fingers crossed.
whitesnake01 07-09-2009, 06:21 AM I just assumed that they all come with off gaps, mine has uneven gaps, but nothing is wrong with it.:sm_party:
Lethal Tendencies 07-09-2009, 06:25 AM Hopefully loosening the rear quarter and maybe adjusting the door will take care of it
jgillen1 07-09-2009, 09:16 AM i would have to agree with "lethal tendancies" it would seem more like a problem with the rear quarter panel and bumper than any thing with the front. does your hood and front fender seem to line up OK?
SILVER 07-09-2009, 03:06 PM update #2.
They went through the adjustment process like explained and glad to say it went very well. they were able to make the margin line near perfect, I am very pleased and releived. total cost $210.00 yee-haw
cause: unknown but evidence showed someone has been in this car before, maybe for the same reason. no sign of a crash.
Thanks to all for your response. All body lines are now as they should be. :burnout:
