I'm just wondering how much abuse can these clutches take before failing or just braking?

I think quite a bit! These cars were made to be raced so every part was made to last. Now if you go putting a ton more HP on it obviously the lifespan will be shortened a little and how you drive also comes into play!

They are actually pretty decent as long as you are not abusing them too much with a drag slick. The key is to keep the clutch fluid clean. If you plan on drag racing the car you might want to change the fluid after each day. Doing that will help preserve the life of the clutch.

How is changing clutch fluid going to reduce wear on the clutch disc?

Brake fluid has nothing to do with the ills of the C5/C6 sticking clutch problem. Brake fluid has been used for years for clutch including the C4 or other GM models and never has this problem

Brake fluid gets just as hot or hotter or dirty for brakes and does not have the issues seen with the clutch.
Brake fluid cannot prevent the force of the pressure plate arms from pushing the release bearing back which would push fluid back to return the clutch pedal.
Try and push down on arms of pressure plate and see how much force they have and you can see when they return there is no way the small amount of brake fluid can withstand that pressure.

What is the problem including I have seen new 2007 Z06 had same failure in less then 6,000 miles and brake fluid was not dirty or abused.
This myth of changing brake fluid for clutch more often then your socks has even forced GM to write a TSB stating to not replace the fluid or even open the cap to check it.

ALL slaves I have seen all have the same problems found, cheap design with lots of slop causing bearing to jam against the slave base stem the bearing slides on and the packing of bearing coming out and gumming up on the stem. The bearing causes grooves in stem and bearing cocks and jams on the grooves.

As seen here :

Even with GM switching from DOT3 to DOT4 brake fluid the problem still occurs with new C6s as it does for C5s says it is not the fluid as the cause and the coloring change is simply the bleeding of the color off the O ring and seal but has no effect on what fluid does for pressure and release.

Anyways, the clutches are designed to hold the power on a road course or some spirited driving. Put slicks on any car and dump the clutch and thats where you put strain on them that they are not intended to handle. To put it simply, the more traction you apply, the faster the clutch wears.

One well-known problem with the C-5 clutches is the release of the pedal not engaging the clutch fast enough, letting the clutch slip. A couple of hard shifts and the pedal may not come up off the floor. There is a mod to the hose assembly involving drilling the i.d. of the end fittings, to help with this problem.

WOW you need to change the fluid every day when drag racing?
