Got a question and I'm hoping you guys know or have been through it. I was looking to replace the bose system in my c6 in pieces to spread that cost and yield better performance with each step. Since I have the interior out right now putting in MadVette's insulation kit I would like to replace the 5 1/4's in the mid section. Talked to a reputable stereo shop and employee here in OKC and was told with the Bose system you can't replace speakers without adding your own amp and replacing all the speakers at once because of the Bose system running at 8 or 10 ohms. I just want to confirm because this would change my plans completely.
Thanks,
Will

your talking about the 5.25's in the rear correct? I replaced them first w 4 ohm legacy brand coaxial speakers on my 2006
then a month or so later I replaced the 3.5s in the door.
I still need to undo the single 5.25 in the center
FYI there are literally 25+ posts on the other forum about this

Will, just get another shops opinion, I know of a few people that have done just that and pieced together their set up to take a smaller $$ hit over time!

Thanks everyone. I'll check around. I check out the other site but those seemed like they were all replacing all the speakers and adding amps.
At least it seems its possible to do it piecemeal.

You can absolutely just replace the speakers with the exception of the 10" woofers.
The bose 3.5" in the doors and dash and the 5.25" in the rear are all 3.5 ohm. Just use 4 ohm speakers. You will get minimal improvement since the bose amp flattens out the EQ.
You can not just replace the 10" woofers since these are self powered and have an amp built into them.
You won't get real good improvement until you replace the bose amp.

10" Subwolfers???? Where are these located. I have the Bose system but I don't think mine has any subs.

They are in the lower door. there is a Bose emblem on them. If you do not have the Bose emblem then no Bose woofers.

They are not big like conventional woofers, flat like pancakes is what they are most like.
