Critter here,
My '84 vette is in need of a new steering rack. It is a sport rack "AJ." When my rebuilt rack from a vette parts provider arrived, I discovered that it is a sport rack for an '86 (with a steering rack tagged "WT."). Will this work?:

I beleve the racks are all the same , but when the 17 inch wheels came out in 88 the tie rods got a little longer. should work fine with 84 tie rods.

The Z51 rack is a 2 or 2 1/4 turns lock to lock.
The standard rack is 2 1/2.

Thanks for you insight, David. I used the 86 steering rack. It is now aligned and works fine. Now, however, my steering pump seems to be going bad...you know, that "whirring" sound...even when fluid is in it. Also, I've discovered that it is leaking, but cannot be found. What are your thoughts on this?

I installed a new steering rack, but now it's leaking out the ends of the boots. The boots feel bloated as if they are filled with air. I bled them properly, but now my steering fluid reservoir is empty again. How does it empty out on just a 7 mile trip?
