Heres one thing I never understood about tires and different compounds. Will tire compound change with wear? Racing tires are bald yet apparently don't last long, where a "Z" rated tire has a life span much longer and you have a "grip" factor of ---?? Racing tires have no tread, there for more rubber is hitting the pavement, getting more traction for aggressive needs, why not for street use? May be a strange question or perhaps I'm just missing the point?

The race tires are just a softer rubber that will get chewed up quickly on a track, where as the street tires are harder compound that needs to be good in both rain, snow, dirt, and pavement. Theres my 2 cents. I'm off now, time to finish wrapping presents!
Merry Christmas all!

track tires will never last on the street.
that being said many people are starting to put Hoosiers R6 on their street cars to get that added traction. They dont drive them in the rain and realize there will be limited miles.
I personally ran Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on the Street and loved them. It was not as good as my race tires, but pretty close and last alot longer.

I love that Nitto 555r or if I really want to stick I will go with the Nitto TR1 with a treadwear of 60!

The line between high-performance tires and street-legal race-compound tires is getting blurred, and that is good. Toyo RA1,Michelin Cup,Pirelli Corsa,Yokohama 048--tires like this come on some sports cars today from the factory. They have good tread depth and high grip in the wet. I use RA1s on the back of my 2002 to prevent the rear from ever sliding out on narrow two-lanes. They have 8/32" tread depth and last 6,000 miles.

Nitto 555R's are a good priced and performance tire, if you always on the gas they won't last much longer than 5k miles, but when you in the tight corners these will stick just fine.
