Hello everyone, new here and I already have a question for you. My 2003 C5 has 73678 miles on her and this morning when I got up to start it for my drive to get coffee, the engine seemed to have a surge to it at idle. The tach would fluxuate between 600 and 1100 rpms. Is this a big problem now or is a problem waiting to happen? Thanks everyone!

Really hard to tell, could be anything from bad gas to humidity messing with a flakey ground.

Have you checked for any "C" codes? Do a search in here if you don't know how to check them.

does this happen while you are driving also? Definetly check for any codes if you haven't done so already and that hopefully will give you an idea as to what the problem is! Good luck and let us know if anything comes up!

Greg.

You know I bet this would be the problem, I usually get my gas at Chevron but a few days ago on a drive I was running low and had to stop at a gas station called Vallero? I bet that even though I paid for the good stuff, I got the cheap stuff!! I am going to pour in a bottle of octane boost and see what happens! Thanks you guys!

I had similiar experience some time ago with "bad" gas, I put a bottle of gas treatment in and with in 15 miles or so the car ran great. Or you could use a tune up or tune?

Just letting everyone know that the bad gas was it! I put a bottle of that boost in it and it ran crapy for a little while longer but then it started getting better and before long she was running great. Just for a test I turned the car off and didn't start it again until that night which was about 7 hours later and she ran perfect again. So word to the wise, be cautious as to where you get your gas!!
