Hi all, I'm new to the forum and would like to start looking at beefing up my suspension. I'm not a professional racer nor do I street race:

1. What benefits would there be to swaping out stock shocks and adding aftermarkets?
2. Any benefit to moving to Coilovers?
3. If so where would you recommend to purchase and what make would you recommend?

Thanks

Adding a performance shock will give you better handling, alot of the coilover setups are adjustable. Many cases if your not racing there really isn't need to go with coilover set ups? To each their own, I have friends who don't race who have coilovers.

I think you can purchase like at ecklers, or westcoastcorvette - good brands are bilstein & eibach

Getting rid of the stock run-craps and installing Bilstein Sport shocks will give you a very noticable improvement!

Update: we have been researching a few companies on suspension parts for C6's and C5's. As we get deeper into a relationship, I'll keep you all posted! The biggest challenge we have found is more on the availbilty on C6 suspension parts more so than the C5's.

Nope, my stockers are doing fine so far, if I decided to do some racing agian or they start to fade I'll put the Bilstein Sports on... the HDs are too much for my taste. You really don't need a harsh ride to be able to stay glued to the road...

BTW Call me Tim! :D

Smokin - Yes please do let us know what you come up with for products!

If your goal is to improve the handling of the car, you should also consider changing out sway bars at the same time you change shocks. Controlling body roll is IMP. Hotchkis are a popular choice or if you plan to attend HPDEs frequently consider going to T1 Bars.

I just installed Moton coil over’s but I'm out at the track 2-3 times per month. Unless your planning to track(RR) the car frequently you probably don't want coil overs. If you do plan to track the car, they are a IMP addition. Most coil over kits will run you about $2,000 plus install.

Tom where did you get the Moton coil overs? And what is involved in installing these on the car? Whats a typical charge if need to bring to a shop? thanks again.

Sorry to get back to you late. Budget about 6 hours labor to install coil overs and 1 hr to align the car. Fall Line Motorsports, Northbrook, Il. 847 480 9804 is where I purchased mine. The Motons are very expensive and almost twice what some other good coil overs run. They run $4,000 for a full set vs. $2,000 elsewhere. They are worth it if you spend a good deal of time on the track, however lots of better drivers than I swear by LG Motorsports or Pfadt coil overs at half the price. The T1 bars are a must in my opinion if you are spending the money on the coil overs.

Great post Tom. Who has the best price on Hotchkis sway bars? T1 Bar- who makes these? I'm not familiar with this one?

T1 bars are a GM product I believe. Both sway bars should be available at an good tuner shop. I got mine from the guys who are doing the coil over install(fall line sports 847 480 7702). If you step up to coil overs suggest the t1 bars.
