I am reading zaino's website and it says they only recommend 100% cotton bath towels??
I have a ton of microfiber cloths. Is that ok? or should I go out and get some white 100% cotton towels?
Zaino recommends using only Large Bath size 100% Made in USA White Cotton towels with all of our products.

No way! Use your microfibers if they are good quality. 100% cotton towels typically have sewn egdes with polyester. That will casue some light scratching.

(100%) Cotton Towels (as a comparison)
AlpineFiber3 from DFTowels they are 100% Cotton Micro fibre, USA made, soft and supple while having more bite and polishing ability than before, it's 35% more absorbent, and nearly 50% plusher than most towels. Made from Polyester/Nylon micro fibre and are far superior to any of the Asian imports.
Its scratch resistance has a lot to do with the way the fibres are processed and spun, there are too many factors to be able to say conclusively that natural fibres will not cause scratches and artificial fibres will. In my opinion, however, natural fibres are far less likely to scratch, flannel or cotton flannel is a very tight weave and it could scratch as it mats down easily, always try to stay with a terrycloth weave.
Theses cotton towels are exceptionally soft, super absorbent terrycloth. The fabric is woven from a blend of micro fibre cotton and Pima Cotton; no artificial fibres of any kind are used in the weaving or sewing of this product. But pay attention to the edge bindings as they can be a potential cause of surface scratches Quality towels edge bindings are sewn with cotton thread, not polyester. (For more information on cotton) -http://www.supima.com/faq/index.htm
The smaller the diameter of the yarn, the softer the fabric will feel, however this does not mean that its non-abrasive and will not cause scratches (this softness can also be chemically induced) The most important criteria for any fabric used on a vehicle surface is its quality and scratch resistance. Natural polymer cellulose can be spun with long staple cotton and then woven into 100% natural looped terrycloth or velour, were the loops are trimmed to produce a fine nap (ideal for glass cleaning). This is very soft, absorbent, and non-abrasive and will not cause scratching.
Once this type of fabric is washed two or three times, to remove any short fibres it will not leave a lint trail. The principal structural chemical in cotton, wood, and most other plants is actually cellulose consisting of many small molecules linked together (monomers) in a chain or lattice like structure; both linen and cotton are natural plant fibres. Quality towels edge bindings are sewn with cotton thread, not polyester.

Haha I just got done typing up a post about this in the 'towel drying' thread but I'll put a brief one here as well. As far as I'm concerned the microfiber towels ought to be ok. With the 100% cotton towels, make sure they're made in the U.S.A. They can be manufactured elsewhere but make sure the cotton was made here. The reason is because the U.S. has the strictest standards that they have to go by when they make the cotton which makes it much softer. Compare one made in the U.S.A. to pretty much any other one and you can feel just how much softer it really is. I was surprised. They're somewhat hard to find though, at least in white.
