I would like to get away from the point and shoot camera and into one of those DSLR's. I have been looking at some cameras and recognize the popular brands like Canon and Nikon, but whats a good camera? For starting out what lens should I get? Other equipment?

Please post up what you recommend, also where is the best place to purchase?

I'm very satisfied with my Nikon D90.
Costco has great prices.

My husband has a Canon Rebel and really likes it.

I have a canon very similar to the rebel.I like it alot and it takes very good pics.

Wife has been looking at the Nikon D300 for last couple months. Over the last few years she has gotten very serious into photography. I think right now she 2 other cameras, I know they are Nikon but don't know what model they are off the top of the head. Only reason I know about the D300 is she has a photo on the fridge that I look at every time I'm getting a beer! I think this is a hint to me. :rofl:

I should be getting my new Sony A700 any day now. Which is good because I ordered it and totally forgot to buy and lenses for it.

We have a Nikon D80, we might be moving to another Nikon or completely over to Canon here soon. My son wants this camera so we might get a new one and pass this one along to him. He's going to be taking a photography course in school.

I'm a Canon guy myself, but there are also some great deals to be found online also. Definetly shop around :thumbsup3:
