: Katech Engine in Z06?
waverunner 12-19-2007, 09:08 AM I'm putting some serious consideration into a recommended KAT-A4730 Street Attack LS7 motor from Katech. On their website its showing price starting at $23,000. Its a 427 so its the same displacement as stock Z06 right? They use forged parts, 11:1 compression (not 100% on understading compression ratio's).
So wanted to see what sort of HP gains will I be seeing, benefits to makeing this investment? Any feed back would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Don't have one of their motors, but know they build some BAD A$$ motors! Get it if you have the $$, I would!
tom snitzer 12-19-2007, 04:44 PM Katech builds great stuff. My garage partner has the street attack in his RR car and loves it.
I chose to have EPP build me a 427 using the Warhawk block, which we think is superior to the normal Z06 LS7 used in the street attack. The Chevy equivalent of the Warhawk would be the LS7R, ergo the block used in the C6R Compuware Race Car.
As is the case with the Katech build, I went with forged components and a Dailey dry sump system.
The amount of HP is going to be dependent on the compression and heads you use. My car is going to be track only and will run on 104 octane. We will be running a 13/1 compression ratio and are shooting for approx 750 hp.
See link below for details. Good luck.

Building a big block NA engine to get addl hp is expensive. There's no reason for you to put a street attack in a non road race car. You might as well buy a crate LS7 for $13,000. My build or the street attack is twice the money because it's built to run on higher compression and withstand the rigors of being run to death on the track.
If you want some big hp for the street and don't plan to track the car, suggest you consider FI. For about $9,000 you can get a turbo or SC that will give you plenty of power added!
smokinvette2 12-19-2007, 05:17 PM Great advice as usual Tom! If you are not into racing hardcore then save yourself a boatload of $ and just go with a nice TT or SC setup!
bfbadwrench 12-20-2007, 06:17 AM Yeah no SH*T! Why would you do that drastice of a move to a brand new Z06? That just doesn't make any sense IMO. Your not even a racer, right? Just add a S/C to keep your engine very easily in a position to go back to stock and I bet that you will crap your pants at the power!

Now Now, lets keep it civil here! It is his Vette so he can do whatever he wants to it! Now as far as taking your LS7 out already, I don't think that I would do that but like I said it's your ride!!!

I don't think he meant any disrespect, however his comment is spot on. The stock Z06 is a great motor for the street. Add an SC or TT and it's a monster. If the original poster is planning to do HPDE's or RR he should scrap FI and do a head cam package. He can get close to 600 hp that way.
Below is a picture of my track garage partner's unrestricted C6R replica with a Katech track attack, Holinger sequential trans and a full Motec engine mgmt computer system. This is the type of car that can take advantage of a race built LS7 or Warhawk (not a street machine).

waverunner 12-22-2007, 08:57 AM Hmmm, many options, many options :willy_nilly: I will be kicking around some ideas here over next few weeks. I'm really looking to get some serious power. The Z06 at first was great power, I think I am getting greedy with power these days. I keep reading post about people doing this and that, well I have caught the bug and want to take mine to the next level. :burnout:
Spiral04 12-23-2007, 10:50 PM I believe I know a guy who has this in C6Z06. He's from Ventura, Ca. I believe he has this set up and the power was about 550rwhp. His name is Tommy. Mention him to Katech, they'll know him and what he did and how much power.

The Katech engine is an amazing piece of work, and you would be really happy with it, but if you're not taking full advantage of it on the track, it is a lot of overkill.
For a ton of fun on the street, you may want to take a look at our Procharger package for 2006-2008 Z06 Corvettes:

For about $9,000.00 you'll be making 625 RWHP and have the time of your life!
Let me know if I can answer any questions,
Ed

Well, we are a new sponsor here so I guess I'll take the opportunity to post my first reply to a question about Katech.
If you already have an LS7 for us the build, the cost is far less than $23k. It is still 427ci. If you have any other questions please feel free to call me at 866-Katech1

Its absolutely not overkill. I have the package in my Z06 and I enjoy driving it to work every day. Now that we are a sponsor Ed, I would appreciate if you did not hijack threads titled with Katech and bash our products with your misinformed comments.

If you use existing motors, will you need the car on location or would I ship the motor to you?

1001hp XV16
That was naturally aspirated.
XtremeZ 02-21-2008, 06:08 PM I am fortunate enough to have the Katech Street Attack package on my 2007 Z. :) I have been thoroughly pleased with the entire Katech experience and the car is nothing short of absolutely awsome. I don't think that you can go wrong with Katech, not only for the professionalism of their organization but for the performance of their products as well. Feel free to ask any questions regarding my car.
Z06dreams 02-21-2008, 06:46 PM I personally think you should get the $23,000 motor and give me your stock engine for pickup I can see the badges I could have made "Zierra 06" and the little 505 hp thing above the name
