: HSR Results
slrvette 06-10-2009, 06:02 PM Got my (free) HSR today from Holley. Sweet! And thank you to HOLLEY!
Anyways been reading up on it, they claim a 63hp gain when bolted onto a stock 350. Is this BS or does anyone actually have some numbers they'd like to share.
CFI-EFI 06-10-2009, 07:05 PM That would be amazing. WHAT stock 350? Not all stock 350 intake manifolds are the same. I heard tell of people sending in close to $500.00, sight unseen, for a manifold touted to produce only half that much. "If it sounds too good to be true..."
RACE ON!!!

My advantage is I paid "nothing" for it, its a much better upgrade than what some other things are.
Since its free, and I already have a ecm that will support it, a hood scoop to accomdate it. And I'm only going to be spending another $196 and my labor... i said what the hell why not.
I read a few gm articles and they had done dynos and ets comparing the ported tpi, miniram, and HSR. And the HSR came out on top with a 63rwhp gain, a huge gain with tq (can't remember the exact number), mild cam, 190cc heads with 9:8 to 1 compression and drop down to a 12.59 @107.xx mph in the quarter.
But I don't necessarily believe everything thats written. I'd rather here some first hand experience. Problem with the HSR is not alot of c4 guys are using it since it sits 10.25 inches in height and won't clear most hoods without modification

The Accel base and big tube setups are "supposed" to be a 30Hp+ bolt on so given the extra rpm potential of the HSR that # is probably not excessive.
It works but you really need a cam upgrade to support the extra rpm.
This test done on a 383 with serious cam and TFS heads but you can see the "relative" difference between intakes.

Note that even with the good heads and cam, the TPI just flatlines after 4500 like on stock engine whereas the HSR pulls out to 6000.
Ran in my new 383 in with much modded TPI (ported, big tubes, etc ) , swapped to HSR.0.4 faster untuned:thumbsup:

Okay, in your first post, you said that they claimed a 63rwhp gain when bolted on a "stock" 350. Then, in your next post, you stated the article you read that the HSR won the contest with a 63rwhp gain on an engine with "mild cam, 190cc heads, and 9:8 to 1 compression". That's FAR from being a stock 350. Just based on my experience building engines and drag racing, I'd wager that the bulk of that gain was produced with the heads and cam change. Yeah, the better flowing intake is going to make a difference, but not 63 ponies all by itself. The HSR is a nice intake, though. I'd have one if it would fit under the hood.
slrvette 06-12-2009, 06:00 AM lowlelflyer- and your right! I did post two different things. Different articles that I read.
But one consistancy is that each time a 60hp gain is claimed.
Now I do have a mild cam and aftermarket heads on mine. So this should definetly be an improved over my present intake setup which is the X-ram and 2 in TB's
What I'd really like to do is a before and after dyno with a couple of track runs to see.
Lowlevlflyer 06-12-2009, 06:52 PM Yeah, before and after dyno runs and track numbers would be cool to see! Sounds like a nice setup for sure!

Might just well. Since the HSR is free, I'm already ready to accept the multiport injection. I'll have hardly anymore money invested.
Just picked up a LT style TB for a 100 bucks, 52MM.
Looking for 30lb injectors, buy the connectors for the injectors, maybe a 85 style Tv cable, couple gas line fittings, and a small cap style HEI distributor. All these parts will be less than a few hundred bucks. So I don't see any reason not to.
Just picked up a set of 190cc heads, The only other thing I may do is get my fresh 383 done so I can just bolt all the stuff in and drop it in over this coming winter.

So any updates on your HSR? Sad to see another ceasefire hit the trash bin. What are you doing with your ceasfire stuff? Any goodies you want to part with? I have paypal:thumbsup3:
slrvette 07-11-2009, 06:11 AM Not really, just been gathering all the parts. Almost there. Only thing left is the small cap distributor.
Taken the car this week to the track to get some numbers with my present setup.
After that I'll be looking seriously into getting this HSR on. But debating right now if I want to change my darts heads to something different while its off.
or
I gonna get my 383 project done and just bolt it all together this winter.
