: Reasons Amp Fuse Blows?
todd_vette 06-09-2009, 02:44 PM I recently got my beast going again but am confused as to why the front amp fuse keeps blowing when i turn the volume up past about 32. The entire system is Alpine head with 2 Alpine amps going to Kappa Infinity speakers. The Amps are an older 90amps going to a pair of 4x6" in the dash and 5" in the doors of my 87 for the front amp and 6x9 rear amp. The rms on the front speakers is only 54 combined and max 90 so i don't understand why the fuse on that amp goes every time i turn it up. It does fine till about 32 on the volume. The other amp is powering 6x9s with an rms of 60 and max 120 with no problems. What did i do wrong?
Thank-you for any help.
radioflyer97 06-10-2009, 10:43 AM there's a possibility you're getting a partial ground on your main power wire. Trace your amp's main power wire back to the battery to find where it is. This happens a lot when the power wire gets squished.
For additional peace of mind, you can use wire loom around your power and ground wires.
fastazzlightning 06-11-2009, 07:09 AM Radioflyer, I know you are big into the lighting and all but are you just as big into the stereo side of things?

does this answer your question?

rgreen5727 06-11-2009, 02:40 PM What is that electronic thingy next to those door spkrs? Also, just what size speakers go in the door? The ones in your photos or 8''? I really need to know before I buy the wrong stuff. Amps on front only? or front and rear? So many questions.

- electric door thing is the door control module.
-speakers in the door are 5.25" midrange and 6.5" midbass
- Amps for front, rear and sub with 3 way active crossover for the front stage and four 2-way passive crossovers for rear stage and midrange/midbass.
todd_vette 06-14-2009, 05:53 AM I have searched the lead wires with no sign of crimping or grounding.
But your description of your system made me start thinking about the cross-overs.
The 52.7i and the 693.7i speakers both have passive cross-overs wired dirrectly to each speaker (they came with the speakers) while the 462.7cfp speakers do not have any external, but i think they do internal. Can this configuration of running the 52.7i and 462.7cfp speakers off one amp be causing a feed-back at high volume? I realy don't know a whole lot about stereo system set-ups, so i appologise if my question is dumb.
radioflyer97 06-14-2009, 07:22 AM Unfortionatly, if the problem isn't in your power wire, it's usually in your amp. At this point I would suggest either taking it in for repairs, buying a new amp or living with the volume under 30.
btw: we are talking about the main amp power fuse correct?

I have no clue on that. It is the one that is in the side of the amp itself between the speaker out-puts.
Both amps have a single fuse up by the battery (for both feeds) for the lead wire, but it is holding strong.

okay now i'm confused.
Exactly which fuse is blowing?
todd_vette 06-14-2009, 05:29 PM Ok, both amps tie into a single poative from the battery that has an inline fuse. That fuse is ok and not blowing. Both amps have a fuse in thier body between the speaker out-puts and the rca in-puts. the amp powering the front speakers keeps blowing that internal (?) fuse that is mounted in the side of the amps when i turn the volume up past about 30-32 on the head unit. The rear amp has held fine even when turning to the max at 40.
These are older Alpine 3513s amps if that helps any. And the CDA-7893 Alpine head-unit.
radioflyer97 06-14-2009, 05:42 PM Ok i see.
If you have the owners manual to these amps, that will help. I fear your amp may have a partial internal short. If this is the case, you may be better off replacing the entire piece.
