C5 coupe and the fixed hard top? Is it true that the fixed roof is much lighter?

The C5 Z06 is approx 200-250 lbs lighter than the coupe.

What is the big difference in the weight? Where is the extra weight coming from?

As I understand, the wheels are lighter, the glass used for the front/rear windshield is lighter and other car parts........

My C5 2004 couple was weighed when I tuned on a dyno at 3350 lbs, the 2002 Z06 I bought to build a track car weighed in at 3150 lbs on the same dyno.

What? The glass is lighter? That is the first time that I've heard of that! I can see the wheels being lighter but the glass just seems a bit far out there! But I am no expert so maybe it is! Joe.

The glass thickness is different in the Z06. I've heard that from two independent sources (race tuners).

Actually the material you use for RR windshields makes quite a difference in weight. My track only car I'm building will have Lexan instead of glass.

Tom's right the glass is thinner, I think they could've saved weight elsewhere but so be it.

Wow that is a bit of a difference, so its primary the wheels and different glass used?

:iagree: but when you look at over all weight reduction like the wheels, body parts and so forth it all adds up.

Yes its true the glass is lighter. The FRC were originally designed to be a more affordable Vette and a vette for younger hotrodders. It is the precurser to the Z06.

IIRC there was less sound deadening material in the Z06 as well.
