: What parts are in the Z51 package?

Just wondering what the difference is between a base corvette and a Z51 package. Also wondering what it would take to upgrade my 07 base model corvette into a Z51 and what the benefits and drawback to it would be.

I've heard a Z51 has better acceleration than a base model, does it sacrafice any top end to get this acceleration?

Anyway, would it be worth it to try and add the parts necessary to gain the Z51 performance or would the money be better spent elsewhere?

thanks

I can speak for 06 M6 Z51.

Leaf springs have stiffer spring rates
sway bars have stiffer rates
has tranny and oil cooler built into the radiator
the gearing is different in the MZ6 (manual) maybe 0.2 tenths faster in quarter mile.
has somewhat bigger drilled rotors and pads.

If you really like a track car with somewhat stiffer suspension and the ability to keep the tranny and oil temps lower and a little better stopping distance then its worth it.

If you like a "street car" that absorbs the pot holes gently then keep what you have.

I went with coilovers, stiffer sways Dewits Radiator, etc. I still have the Z51 stuff including the leaf springs and radiator if you are interested

The most popular (and least expensive) Z51 upgrades are the Sway Bar Kits and the Brake upgrade. The sway bar kit is front and rear bars and insulators. The Brake upgrade is all four rotors and caliper brackets. They are listed on my website under Corvette Specials if your interested.

Plus you can get some cool badges for the side :happy0045:

I had badges for a little while and became target for some jokes. It's all good :thumbsup3:

The Z51 package has I believe stiffer suspension and better brakes & cooling system. According to one of the car magazines handles much better than the stock, not sure about the power.

No power difference. Performance comes from the 3.42:1 rear axle and MZ6 trans gearing.

Edit: OT but Kevin, do you sell just the t1 end links?

I am interested in doing the same...

I'll be ordering the z51 sways next month. I figure that is a good start for the suspension.

From the 2005 broucher...

"Z51 Performance Package includes performance-tuned Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT tires, stabilizer bars, cross-drilled brake rotors, springs and shocks, additional cooling for power steering, engine oil and transmission, special gear ratios for manual and performance axle ratio for automatic transmission."

The tires are uni-directional and asymmetric.

Pick up a copy of the 2005 brochure and check out the DVD that comes with the package. They have a section on the Z51 and also a copy of the "banned" commercial. You can pick it up from the Museum.

...has tranny and oil cooler built into the radiator...

At least for the 08, the oil cooler is external. It is the mini-me version of the Z06 cooler. ;) It gets a new bracket as part of the Vararam install.
