Hello All,
OK! I just bought a 2005 vette convertible -48,000 miles around three months ago. I noticed the harmonic balancer was wobbling reeeel bad. How I found out was the belt would squeak and after the engine was warm it would stop. I thought it was a belt so I changed it. The squeak was gone....It came back around a month after I changed it. I was driving the car for a while before I finally took it to the dealer (they were not even sure if it should be wobbling). So I took it to a local mechanic, He said its not bad to drive but I should change it asap because it could shatter or come off and destroy alot of things. So I got it changed out. Since then I noticed it has a reeeeel little wobble. When I looked at it I tried not to focus on the rubber isolater because the mechanic shop is telling me thats what makes it look like its wobbling......Im looking at the groves on the balancer and Im not going crazy, its wobbling like 1/16th of an inch. If I look at the rubber iso, its more like an 1/8 to 1/4 inch. I'm worried because the car was driven for a while with the old pully, now the brand new one is bad too.... Did anyone have this problem before? Do you think anythig internal got messed up? Could it be a defective balancer? Most important, should I be getting some play in this balancer? I already called the dealer and flipped out on them. I want it changed again....Am I wrong???
