: Adding Mods to high mileage Vette?
TC973 12-15-2007, 05:34 AM I posted a similiar question on a Vararam but after thinking about it decided to just start a thread. I now own my first Vette, she has just over 91,000 miles (2003). My question is after reading alot of these post about adding this and adding that mod, I kind of want to add a few myself. My concern is that I don't want to put un needed strain on my motor? So I was wondering on a 91k motor are there certain mods I can get away with that might add some more power without messing my motor up?
Thank you.
tom snitzer 12-15-2007, 01:13 PM If you want to make more hp, you can mess around with head, cam or intake mods that will run $1,000 to $3,000. That may add 25-90 hp. To generate meaningful improvement 130hp+ your looking at a supercharger or a twin turbo. That's going to run you $8,500-9,500 installed.
smokinvette2 12-16-2007, 08:52 AM I agree with Tom, as far as your milage on your motor, it really is going to depend on how you drive your Vette. If you pound on it then you have a good chance to break something and adding power mods will only magnify your chances! Now if you just get on it every now and then you will have a better chance of your engine living a longer life, even with the extra mods.

on a head and cam package would a high mileage motor be able to handle it? With out breaking stuff? Thanks
HaddadMotorsports 12-17-2007, 05:47 PM It all depends on the current health of your motor.
We have a 98 c5 making 480rwhp through and automatic.
The motor is stock with over 150k on it. Still running strong.
If the goal is to not add any stress to your motor however there are mods that simply improve the airflow that you currently have.
Headers, exhaust, air intake, aluminum flywheel, and under drive pulley.
None of these will effect longevity of your motor and will improve millage.
Of course the final say in the matter is going to be your right foot.
Thanks

Absolutely! Drive it like you stole it and if it breaks patch it up and go for more!!! But on a more serious note just stay away from the high boost and nitrous and you should be alright!!

What sort of gains can you see from adding all of these: Headers, exhaust, air intake, aluminum flywheel, and under drive pulley? The aluminum flywheel is just a weight reduction right?
