Hi all, my digital cluster is out. I was wondering if many of you have had to replace it, or is there a way to fix it by DIY?

What do you mean by "OUT"? Speed or Tach or both? Did you ever notice any signs before your problem? There isn't alot of DIY stuff you can do but, depending what the problem really is there are things you can do to save yourself some cash. If the displays have really died its gonna cost more than a few bucks to either have yours repaired or just buying another one. Don't be surprised if they want yours as a core. I am by no means an expert but know enough to fix the more simple stuff with the digital dash. If you need to send yours in MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE YOUR ODO. That way when the new display arrives your mileage is correct. Copper

I have been driving my '84 a lot last summer and I usually wear polarized sun glasses. My speedometer is our but they are giving off just low enough light my eyes can't see it and neither can regular sun glasses but I have found our that polarized sunglasses filter out light coming from cretin angles. So you can see low energy light in that you can't normally see. Like under the water while you are above it. Small clouds that you normally don't see. And in my case my dash.

It may sound funny, but I tapped my dash and all the lights are working fine.

If you tapped your dash and all lights came on; your only problem with you cluster is the light blubs. Pull the dash cover and check the blubs. You will find one of them loose or the bracket housing them has cracked.

Assuming Cluster means 84 or 85 vette.

1st-Pull the cover over the cluster and check the light bulbs, sound like they are all blown. These bulbs at your Chevy Dealer, "are you sitting," cost $22 - $30 each. Your cluster need 4ea. I found the same bulbs at Wal-mart and Pep Boys for $7.95 ea. Type: GE 882

2nd-Check the cluster ground. You will fine that ground lead behind the right head.

If your cluster is out you can get a good one on ebay for about 250-300 bucks with a year guarantee and no core needed from a seller called "scarabex". PM me if you need his phone number and you can call him direct. he deals only in 84-89 Corvettes at his junk yard....uh, excuse me, "Corvette Parts Palace":burnout:

Also on Ebay there is a guy up in CT that will rebuild yours for $150 or so plus shipping and you send it to him (that's where you pay the shipping) and he fixes it and ships it back...no core..one year guarantee. :sm_party: I had him do my 87 and he does good work. I got the 85 dash from scarabex...still works good 1 1/2 yrs later.

Ebay is a great place to find good deals on parts....been buying and selling corvette parts on Ebay for 10 years now and only got burned once and Ebay kicked the guy off for scammin'.:duel:

with the car off........if you can see the ghost of the letters/numbers ect on your digital dash ......then that LCD section is out:loser:.....if the dash section is completely dark then the LCD is good:thumbsup3:......get a service manual and go through the troubleshooting guide to ascertain if the whole unit is bad or not:thumbsup3:
