I had the oil changed only about a few hundred miles ago and the DIC says that I am low. I had my friend check the oil level and it checks out. When I am driving it is right at 50 and 26 at idle. Any thoughts?

Check the oil level sensor on the passengers side in the oil pan. Try disconnecting and then reconnecting the electrical connector and see if the problem goes away. Could possibly be a little corrosion on the terminals.

If that doesn't do it, you might need to replace the sensor.

DTS, this wouldn't have anything to do with the sending unit would it?

hmmm, that's strange , your running numbers are fine don't know why the DIC is saying that.

Hi There:
After the oil change did you remember to set the oil monitor to 100% ?

Isn't this just for telling the life that is supposedly left in the oil?

Yes the percentages are for the life of the oil based on how hard you drive the car. The low engine oil light is a warning that your engine oil is getting to the point where you need to add oil.
This happened in my vette and the dip stick did not look too bad either but when i added a bit the warning went off. I find that a lot of warnings such as that go off as soon as there is a problem, but not necessarily an emergency (for example the tire pressure goes off if one of the tires drops to 25 pounds.)

Also almost all 97-2002 LS1 motors when paired with a 6 speed have an oil consumption problem due to the seal on the second valve. This happens after driving over 3200 rpm. so if you are doing this a lot ( as we are all guilty of at some point lol ) you will need to add oil more frequently.

Why would this problem only be associated with the MN6 ????

Maybe because the auto won't hold the RPMs?

:eek2: Strange
When I started my car last night the Low Oil came on.
Checked Oil, Down Just a Little. Added some  (Reset)
When driving about 10 min. later came back on again. (Reset) Strange.
Hope that's it. :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
