I live in California, state with high emission standards. I would like a set of headers but I'm wondering how in the world are people getting cars to pass smog when the time comes with headers on? Are you having to remove the headers and put the stock ones back on just for the smog session? Will the car come close to passing if you have long tube headers and hi flow cats?

I'm sure California can't be the only state this emission strick. So what is everyone doing about this, or do I not need to worry about this?

I would love headers, but twice I have been pulled into Safety Check-Points. Were there do visual checks, it is set up just like a sobriety check point.

They pop the hood and use mirrors under the car

I lived in California for 47 years, and I remember how difficult (impossible) to get around the emission testing. Here in Seattle they only do an OBD test, so as long as you don't have a "Check engine" light on, you'll pass!
My modded 2001 SS Camaro was bumping hard with the cam through the headers into a Loud Mouth system, and the guy rolls his eyes and says "You passed Sir"
I love Washington...yea I know it rains alot here.

Using a full Z06 exhaust (manifolds to mufflers) may be the best way to upgrade given your luck.

:iagree:
Absolutely. You won't gain nearly as much mid-range punch, but it will look 100% stock and make almost the same peak power as a set of long tube headers.

My approach, when I lived in California, was to register the car elsewhere. By registering the car in North Carolina, where I had lived and still had a mailing address I could use, I saved $4000. And I could have tinted windows, no front license plate, and no dragonian emissions standards....
