I know of no good reason to go to the trouble. A functional EGR valve can help with fuel mileage under cruising conditions and since it is closed at full throttle (WOT) it doesn't hurt all out acceleration. I guess if you need something to do...

You really should start your own thread with your subject for best results. It takes air, fuel, spark, and compression, all at the right time in the proper amount for the engine to run. Usually it is an ignition or a fuel problem. What are you missing? Does it have spark when you first crank it? Connect a fuel pressure gauge to see what is happening with the fuel. There are several things that can cause excessive cranking, including flooding from a leaky injector.

Check for fuel in the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator, if it's wet the diaphram is cracked or has a pinhole.
