I'm having a major issue with my '05. It's an automatic if it matters that I bought new and the warranty is long gone. Last week it started reading just above empty gas. I went and filled up the car and the gas gauge didn't move at all?
I am now getting a Service fuel system error. The car seems to run just fine, what are my options or what can I check or trouble shoot?
I tried power cycling everything by unhooking up the battery for 30 minutes or so and reconnecting and still no change.
I'm very open to suggestions.

Sounds like your fuel sending unit could be bad. If that is the case you might have a big job in front of you. I'm pretty sure the fuel sending unit is located in the gas tank, which would mean you would have to drop the transaxle and the rear of the car to get access to this. Then again you might be able to drop the tanks with out doing anything with the transaxle, you have a cross member between the tanks that might be a fun one to disconnect.

One quick way to try and "fix" the issue is to run some of Chevron's Techron through the system for a few tankfuls. This should clean the fuel level sensor after some time. From what we understand it is a sulpher buildup that causes the issue.

I agree with the two previous posts. I would try the Techron first. I have heard that has solved the problem for several people.
The C5's have/had this problem.

How often are you running that stuff through to prevent the sulpher buildup?

Just picked up some this weekend, seems like a much cheaper solution than having to deal with the removal of the gas tank!
